The Southeastern Conference (SEC) is a Division I level athletic conference based in the Southeastern region of the United States. The SEC, as it is commonly known, was formed in 1932 with official meetings starting in 1933. The SEC currently has 14 member schools, ten of which were founding members.
The SEC has a total of 252 all-time NCAA national champions. Sports sponsored by the SEC include baseball, basketball, cross country, equestrian, football, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.

Mississippi State University joined the SEC in 1932 as a founding member. The athletic teams are known as the Bulldogs. Baseball is the most successful sport at MSU, with 17 conference championship wins. In 2021, MSU won the NCAA national team championship for baseball.
The University of Alabama joined the SEC in 1932 as a founding member. The Alabama teams are known as the Crimson Tide. In 2020, the Crimson Tide won the NCAA national football championship.
University of Arkansas joined the SEC in 1991 and their athletic teams are known as the Razorbacks. UA has won 48 national championships, including the 2019 women’s outdoor and indoor track & field championships.
Auburn University joined the SEC in 1932 as a founding member. Auburn teams are known as the Tigers. Auburn has won 18 national championships including the 2019 national championship for women’s equestrian.
University of Florida joined the SEC in 1932 as a founding member. UF teams are known as the Gators. UF has won 39 national team titles including the 2021 men’s tennis NCAA championship.
University of Georgia joined the SEC as a founding member in 1932. Their athletic teams are known as the Bulldogs. Georgia has 32 national team championship titles.
University of Kentucky joined the SEC as a founding member in 1932. The university athletic teams are known as the Wildcats. The Wildcats have won 14 national championships including the 2021 NCAA women’s volleyball championship.
Louisiana State University joined the SEC in 1932 as a founding member. The athletic teams are known as the Tigers. LSU has won 48 national championship titles including the 2021 national championship for men’s outdoor track & field.
University of Mississippi or Ole Miss, as it is commonly known, joined the SEC in 1932 as a founding member. The university’s athletic teams are known as the Ole Miss Rebels. In 2021 Ole Miss won the NCAA team national championship for women’s golf.
University of Missouri or Mizzou, as it is commonly known, joined the SEC in 2012 as one the newest members of the conference. The athletic teams are known as the Tigers.
The University of South Carolina joined the SEC in 1991. Their athletic teams are known as the South Carolina Gamecocks and they have won four NCAA national team championships.
University of Tennessee joined the SEC in 1932 as a founding member. The university’s athletic teams are known as the Volunteers. The Volunteers have won 22 national team championships.
Texas A&M University joined the SEC in 2012 as one of the newest members to the conference. The university’s athletic teams are known as the Aggies and have won 16 NCAA national team championships.
