An unweighted 3.9 GPA means a student earned mostly A's and A-'s in their high school classes. A grade point average of 3.9 is excellent! If you have a 3.9 GPA, you got better grades in high school than the vast majority of high school students.
There are many excellent colleges that accept students with a 3.9 GPA, including ivy leagues like Princeton in New Jersey and UPenn and top state schools like UC Berkeley and UMich in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Some of the best private schools in the nation have 3.9 average GPA, including Vanderbilt in Tennessee, Lewis & Clark and Reed, which are both in Portland, Oregon.
