11 Scholarships You Can Apply to This January

Whether you've submitted your college applications or your college search is just gearing up, January is a great time to research and apply for scholarships. Worried that you won't qualify for any scholarships? With a little research, you can find scholarship opportunities for every type of student. This month’s selection of scholarships offers options for a variety of students, including career-focused students, artists, computer scientists, and anyone pursuing something they're passionate about. Read on for 11 scholarships you can apply to in January 2022.

Ron Brown Scholarships Program

Deadline: January 9, 2022

Who is eligible: Black/African American high school seniors (at the time of application) who are US citizens or permanent residents.

Award: $40,000

Winner Chosen: Unknown

The Ron Brown Scholarship is awarded each year to 50 Black students who demonstrate a special interest in public service, entrepreneurship, community engagement, and global citizenship. Each scholarship winner will be awarded $10,000 per year for four years.

Live Mas Scholarship Program

Deadline: January 11, 2022

Who is eligible: Any students age 16-26 who are pursuing higher education and using their passion to ignite change in their communities and beyond. Recipients must not have previously received a Live Más Scholarship.

Award: $25,000

Winner Chosen: April 27, 2022

The Live Mas Scholarship by the Taco Bell Foundation is awarded to students who are preparing for higher education, entering the workforce, or pursuing their passions.

Profile in Courage Essay Contest

Deadline: January 14, 2022

Who is eligible: U.S. high school students in grades nine through twelve attending public, private, parochial, or home schools; students under the age of twenty enrolled in a high school correspondence/GED program in any of the fifty states; and U.S. citizens attending schools overseas.

Award: $10,000

Winner Chosen: April 30, 2022

The Profile in Courage essay award is given to students who demonstrate an understanding of political courage as described by John F. Kenney in his book Profiles in Courage by writing an original essay that describes an act of political courage by any U.S. elected official who has served since 1917.

Mensa US Scholarship

Deadline: January 15, 2022

Who is eligible: Any student enrolled in an accredited U.S. institution of higher learning during the academic year following the application date.

Award: $2,500

Winner Chosen: Unknown

The Mensa US Scholarship is awarded to Mensa members who write an essay of 550 words explaining their academic and career goals. Essays are judged by local, regional, and national judges of the Mensa Foundation.

Asian and Pacific Islander American Scholarship Program

Deadline: January 26, 2022

Who is eligible: Students who are of Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity and enrolled as an undergraduate student in a U.S. accredited college or university in the Fall of 2022.

Award: $20,000

Winner Chosen: Early Summer 2022

The APIA Scholarship program offers a variety of scholarship awards to support APIA students who meet several qualifications including those who are the first in their families to attend college, have demonstrated leadership in their community, and those who are of a low socioeconomic status.

Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship

Deadline: January 25, 2022

Who is eligible: High school seniors in the U.S. who have completed or are currently enrolled in a computer science course. If you are self-taught, you can opt in to take a brief assessment instead.

Award: $40,000

Winner Chosen: Unknown

The Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship is awarded to 100 students who have taken a computer science class in high school and intend to study computer science in college. In addition to the $40,000 award, winners will also receive a guaranteed paid internship at Amazon.

Hamilton Scholars Program

Deadline: January 26, 2022

Who is eligible: High-achieving students with demonstrated need who are currently juniors in high school who intend to enroll in college after high school.

Award: $1,000

Winner Chosen: April 2022

The 2022 Hamilton Award will be awarded to 40 students who have demonstrated academic, person, service, and entrepreneurial accomplishments. Each winner will receive $1,000 and a laptop to use for college.

CareerFitter.com Scholarship

Deadline: January 31, 2022

Who is eligible: Enrolled, or due to be enrolled, as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited US college or university for the semester with a GPA above 2.4

Award: $1,000

Winner Chosen: February 29, 2022

CareerFitter’s annual scholarship awards $1,000 to 24 students who have a strong understanding of their future career goals and can successfully demonstrate their career plans in a 900-character essay.

Terry Crews "Creative Courage" Scholarship

Deadline: January 31, 2022

Who is eligible: students and artists chasing their dreams through creating art of all forms including painting, photography, drawing, music, sculpture, and more.

Award: $20,000

Winner Chosen: February 15, 2022

The Terry Crews “Creative Courage” Scholarship awards $20,000 dollars for artists to use toward education and opportunities to develop their artistic craft.

Jet Future Business Leaders Scholarship

Deadline: January 31, 2022

Who is eligible: Graduating high school seniors and currently enrolled college students who are interested in pursuing a career in business

Award: $1,000

Winner Chosen: Unknown

Any student interested in a business career after college is encouraged to apply for the Jet Future Business Leaders Scholarship by writing a 200-500 word essay answering a prompt about the value of education.

National Garden Clubs Scholarship

Deadline: February 1, 2022

Who is eligible: Students majoring in fields of study related to horticulture and the environment.

Award: $4,000

Winner Chosen: Spring 2022, directly following the National Garden Club Annual Convention.

The National Garden Clubs Scholarship is awarded to 43 students who are studying or intend to study in fields related to horticulture and the environment.
